Read the Word:
Psalm 73:21-28
Meditate on the Word:
Not all wounds are visible. Many among us carry scars from various things in our lives that have wounded us deeply. Perhaps someone we loved dearly failed us. Perhaps we’ve been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Perhaps things we’ve said in confidence have gotten out. Perhaps we carry self-inflicted wounds from wrong choices in our lives. Perhaps we are deeply insecure. Whatever our wounds in our innermost being, the result is often the same. We direct our bitterness and anger toward God and others. We hold on to our hurt because it is familiar, and we ignore our Lord who wants to redeem our injury.
Often, we may not be aware of the hand that hold ours, or we may, like an impulsive child, try to pull away and run. We may, as the psalmist says, be stupid and without understanding. Of course we know that our Lord is near to the brokenhearted. But feeling that reality can be difficult at times. Sometimes, even years later, our old wounds flare up and nothing will comfort us. It is in times like these that we do well to remember that our Lord does not let go. He may not always take away our pain, but He is always there through our pain. And His presence is enough.
Pray the Word:
Tell the Lord about any hurt or bitterness in your life. Trust in His presence in the situation.
