Read the Word:
Exodus 3:1-10
Meditate on the Word:
In Sunday’s message, Jesus referred the Sadducees to this passage of Scripture in asserting that there is resurrection. Admittedly, it can be difficult to see resurrection in this passage, but since Jesus says it, we are certain it is true. A somewhat simple way of understanding it is that since God made promises to these men that were not fulfilled in their lifetime, they must live again in order to see these promises fulfilled. It might also be helpful to think that God refers to Himself as I AM (present tense) “the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” These men were not truly in the past. They also will rise from the dead in the future, as will we.
As people created in the image of God, we are hardwired to think about eternity. Yet, so many live now as if this short time on earth is the only life we will ever have. And if it is, they will have wasted their lives on selfish living. If, however, Jesus in not a liar and we will be raised from the dead, we should consider this life a dress-rehearsal for the one to come. This means living as citizens of His Kingdom. It means living in a way that honors our Creator, desiring to be even closer to Him.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to show you how to live in light of eternity today.
