Read the Word:
Numbers 17:1-13
Meditate on the Word:
In the chapter before this passage there have been two major rebellions against Moses and Aaron. Because of the first, God destroyed the households of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. In the second, the entire community came against Moses and Aaron saying that they had “killed the Lord’s people.” So God sent a plague on these people, for which Moses instructed Aaron to make atonement for them. Even in the midst of their rebellion, Moses was trying to preserve the people.
So God decides to show the people who He has selected to lead them. Each of the tribes was to contribute a staff, and the one which would bud would be the staff of the leader. So when God caused Aaron’s staff to not only bud, but sprout almonds, it was his word as to whom He had chosen. People still gripe and complain about the leaders that God has chosen for them. This is dangerous territory, because complaining about what God has provided is the same as complaining about God.
Pray the Word:
If you have been complaining against the leaders God has given you repent. Pray that those leaders would do God’s will.
