Read the Word:
John 13:31-35
Meditate on the Word:
It is interesting in this day and time that the word love is thrown about so often when many people do not have a right understanding of what love means. Many people think of love as a feeling or emotion, but if love is reduced to that, it is subject to our moods or whims at any given time and place. But if love is rightly understood as an action verb, putting the needs of others before your own, we get much closer to how Jesus uses the word here.
Jesus met people where they were, saw their need, and had compassion on them. He still does. He put our needs above His own, and calls us to do the same. In fact, He says that it is how people will know that we are His disciples. Fighting amongst ourselves and calling each other names is far from the self-sacrificing love that our Savior has called us to. Let us repent of any actions that do not reflect our Lord’s character.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord for His great love for us today. Commit to sharing that love with someone else.
