Read the Word:
John 5:24-30
Meditate on the Word:
I have watched many of those true crime shows, you know, the ones narrated by the man with the distinctive voice. Often, in these shows, along with the interviews of family, friends, law enforcement, prosecutors, defendants, and defense attorneys, they show clips from the trial. Often, the killer is convicted and imprisoned. Sometimes, the suspect is acquitted. And in some cases, the wrong person is convicted. Our system of justice is not perfect. Yet, one day, we will meet the perfect judge.
Our Lord has an advantage that our justice system does not: perfect knowledge. But we also have the perfect defense: Christ. While all are guilty, “anyone who hears [my] word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.” All have been guilty, but believers already have their sins forgiven, so there is nothing to prosecute. Those who do not know Christ will meet Him as judge. They will be convicted of their sins. There is no room for false conviction or getting away with it. Instead, the perfect Judge who knows their sin will send them to their eternal prison.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord for His forgiveness today. Pray for someone who does not know Him.
