Read the Word:
Psalm 78:32-39
Meditate on the Word:
It can be hard to imagine the wrath of God. We don’t like to talk about it much or think about it. It is a particularly unpopular topic these days, with many emphasizing the love of God and ignoring His wrath. But we clearly read in several passages, including today’s that God has restrained His wrath. This is grace. We deserve His wrath, but we can receive forgiveness instead.
People worshipping God with their lips and lying to Him with their tongues is nothing new. One of the purposes of this psalm is to remind the people of Israel (and us) of their history. This is not for the purpose of making them (or us) fear God’s wrath, but instead is a reminder of God’s grace. God does not want to display His wrath to His people. He wants them to have genuine love for Him as He does for them.
Pray the Word:
Confess your sins to the Lord and repent. Then experience His grace to you.
