Read the Word:
Deuteronomy 11:18-21
Meditate on the Word:
As Americans, we are often led to believe that we should compartmentalize our faith. That it should be a private matter between us and God, without trying to influence others. The socially acceptable faith is one that simply exists out of sight of the neighbors and is never talked about. This kind of faith, however, is not what God intended for His people. He intended for our faith to not only be present in all aspects of our lives, but to be front and center.
Of course we know that His words are to be in our hearts and minds. This is how His words develop in us the character that He desires for us to have. But why would He tell His people to wear His words on their hands and foreheads? Why would He want His words on the doorframes and gates of houses? The idea is that in this way, the Word of God is always in front of you, in your actions (hands), in your dealing with others (foreheads), and even at home where nobody else can see. These words are to influence all of our thoughts, deeds, and relationships. Therefore, this is not a private faith. Ours is indeed a very public faith. Let us keep that in mind.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal any area of your life that you have kept separated from your faith. Repent of this omission.
