Read the Word:
Luke 5:1-11
Meditate on the Word:
When Jesus came to the disciples who were fishing after His resurrection (John 21:1-14), and they recognized Him, it must have been a stark reminder of this first encounter with the Lord at the beginning of His public ministry. There is no way that they could have not been reminded of this miraculous catch of fish when the Lord did the same thing for them again. With an overflowing net of fish, Jesus reminded the disciples, particularly Peter, of the man who first said, “Go away from me because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” A man who humbly left his fishing boat and miraculous catch to follow the One who said, “Follow me.”
It is a good thing to remember what we were like when we first encountered Christ. When we first decided to follow Him with all the enthusiasm of a new child. When our walk with Him was full of wonder and delight. When we were prone to ask silly questions because we didn’t understand. When we simply trusted Him. Take a moment today to remember what your life was like when you first encountered Christ. Reflect on the joy that you felt.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord for revealing Himself to you. Commit to joyfully following Him.
