Meditate on the Word:
How often do we take the time to consider that God loves to bless His people? He loved providing good things for the people of Israel: a fertile land, abundant crops, freedom from oppression. As His children, those of us in the body of Christ are also those He loves to bless. He loves to provide us grace and peace. Yet many have painted a picture of God as an angry being ready to smite us. While that would certainly be His right, He does not delight in this.
Of course we also tend toward thinking of blessing as only material things. This could not be farther from the truth. Often, material things only impair our enjoyment of our Lord. They take our focus off of Him. But other blessings that He provides are a good reminder of Him. They are a reminder of His love. Family and friends are this type of blessing. Our fellow church members also. A sunny day. A gentle rain. We can, and should, enjoy these blessings from God as well, and realize that they demonstrate His love for us.
