Read the Word:
Ezekiel 37:1-14
Meditate on the Word:
When the Lord carried Ezekiel to the valley of dry bones, Israel had been defeated. They had been captured and deported to Babylon. The temple had been destroyed. Their national identity was gone. The death of their nation seemed permanent. And yet God, in his mercy, gave a message of resurrection and restoration. He provided hope during a hopeless time. He is still in that business today.
At the time of this vision, nobody had been resurrected from the dead. Yet, when the question is posed, “Can these bones live?,” Ezekiel’s answer was not an emphatic no. Rather, he recognized that only God knew. Of course, only God has the power to make the dead come to life. And if we have trusted in Christ, we must necessarily recognize that we were formerly dead in our sins and have been brought to life.
Of course, we now know that Jesus was resurrected from the dead, pointing to the truth that we also will, one day, be resurrected from physical death. In the meantime, however, we should be grateful for being rescued from spiritual death.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for giving you life today.
