Read the Word:
John 13:21-30
Meditate on the Word:
This Sunday, we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. But before there can be a Resurrection, there must be a death. This can be very difficult to accept. The disciples (with one apparent exception) loved Jesus and did not want Him to die. But He had told them several times that He was going to the cross. He knew that this would happen because of the betrayal of Judas. Yet, Jesus, earlier in the chapter, washed the feet of the one who would betray Him. He gave Judas bread at the meal. Jesus even told Judas, “What you’re doing, do quickly.” I see each of these things as opportunities that Jesus gave Judas to repent. But the devil had entered Judas and he was too far gone.
The disciples were about to have their whole world shaken. Their Lord would be crucified, betrayed by one of them. Even though Jesus had told them repeatedly, they could not grasp that their beloved Messiah had to die in order to be resurrected. Yet, death is the fate of all who live long enough while our Lord tarries. But what gives us hope is that, like at the Last Supper, death is coming. But so is Resurrection.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal to you any ways in which you have betrayed Him. Repent of these.
