Read the Word:
Luke 6:43-45
Meditate on the Word:
Did you know that it’s possible to be obese and malnourished at the same time? In fact, it’s not extremely rare to have both of these conditions together. But how? The simple answer is consumption of too many foods with little or no nutritional value. If one continually eats junk food and ignores fruits and vegetables, he/she will not have all the vitamins and minerals necessary to support normal body function. This person may have the appearance of being overnourished, but his system could be starving.
In the same way, we can become spiritually malnourished while having an appearance of health, at least until something happens. We can look and sound good on Sunday, while having spiritual anorexia throughout the week. But at some point, the lack of nutrition is going to cause problems. If we have filled our hearts with the world’s entertainments, this will not sustain us when life gets hard. If we have filled ourselves with the media’s message of doom and gloom, we will be ill-equipped to handle crisis in our families. If we have filled ourselves with sixty-second videos from social media, we will find ourselves bloated with junk content and completely lacking the Word of life when we need it most.
In a normal conversation, or even in social media posts, I can very often tell who (or what) has been discipling someone. What comes out of your mouth (or your keyboard) is a direct result of what has been put into it. If you are spending more time gorging yourself on the world’s offerings than feasting on the Word of God, you are starving. And your starvation will become obvious.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal to you if you are malnourished. Feed on His word today.
