Read the Word:
John 7:1-9
Meditate on the Word:
I can only imagine what life must have been like for Jesus’ brothers growing up. This had to have been the worst case of “why can’t you be more like your brother?” that has ever existed. Jesus could literally do no wrong! Yet, for as well as they knew Him, they did not believe in Him. They were unconvinced, at least until His resurrection, when He appeared to His brother James.
John notes in his passage that “the Jewish leaders were looking for a way to kill Him.” Perhaps this was what our Lord’s brothers wanted for Him. Perhaps they did not take the threat against Him seriously because they didn’t take Him seriously. If we look at this passage from the perspective of the brothers, we should then ask ourselves if we take him more seriously than His brothers did. Do we accept His claims of being “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Many people who claim to “know” Jesus do not take Him seriously. Let that not be said of us!
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal any unbelief still residing in you. Repent of this unbelief.
