Read the Word:
Jeremiah 29:1-14
Mediate on the Word:
Verse 11 of this passage is a very popular scripture. Many people use this as their “life verse.” I, too, find it to be a great verse and very encouraging when things are not right. It gains much more meaning when we look at it in the context in which it is written. This passage, as stated in v. 1, is the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent to those who had been exiled into Babylon. They had been removed from their homeland and sent as exiles into a foreign land.
The exiles had lost everything. They had lost the promised land. They had lost homes, fields, positions, and family members. They had lost their national identity. The beautiful Temple that symbolized God’s presence to them was destroyed. They were heartbroken, confused, defeated, and downtrodden. Yet, God sends them a message that He has a plan for them. He also has a plan for us. No matter how bad things may appear, our God is still in control. We have a hope and a future. Let us remember that today.
Pray the Word:
Tell our Lord about your struggles today. Allow Him to reassure you with His words.
