Read the Word:
Proverbs 8:1-21
Meditate on the Word:
In our current day and time, we have ready access to more knowledge than ever before in our lives. Yet, there is no corresponding increase of wisdom in society. In fact, it seems that wisdom is an increasingly rare commodity. While wisdom still calls out to the children of Adam (v. 4), most of the children of Adam ignore her completely, instead choosing to live unwisely. Instead of words of righteousness, people embrace words that are deceptive and perverse. What are we to do in a time like this?
We can do something. We can accept the teachings of the wise. We can despise evil and hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech. We can learn to love wisdom. True wisdom, of course is found in the teaching of scriptures. We should treasure the wisdom that we find in the pages of our Bible. We should not only learn knowledge, but also apply it. It makes no difference if we know the entire scriptures if we pay them no attention and do not do what they say. A friend used to be fond of saying, “Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not using it in a fruit salad.”
Pray the Word:
(James 1:5) “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God — who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly — and it will be given to him.” Pray to God for wisdom today.
