Read the Word:
Psalm 106:1-3
Meditate on the Word:
I have long noticed a tendency in own life to focus on how to avoid making God angry instead of focusing on celebrating His grace and provision in my life. While I do not remember a lot of specifics, I seem to remember churches from my childhood (we moved a lot, so there were several) focusing on sin and how to avoid it. I certainly understand that these teachers wanted to help us to lead holy and upright lives. But the easiest way to become overwhelmed and depressed is to focus on our own shortcomings instead of on our Lord who removes our sin.
Of course, we can (and indeed must) avoid deliberate sin. Hebrews 10:26-27 gives this explicity warning, “For if we deliberately go on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries.” But we must not live in terror that we will accidentally offend our Lord.
If we are busy praising God, declaring His mighty acts, upholding justice, and practicing righteousness, then we are busy doing things that please Him. We need not walk on eggshells with our Lord. These acts declare our great love for Him who first loved us. Let us take time to praise the Lord today and do things that are pleasing in His sight.
Pray the Word:
Give thanks to our Lord today.
