Read the Word:
Psalm 56:1-13
Meditate on the Word:
On social media, a friend recently shared a news article. His comment on this article was simply, “Be afraid.” It is easy to fall into the trap of fear. And we live in a day and time when fear is being thrust upon us, invading our homes, and robbing us of our peace. I think of fear as the ultimate slippery slope. When we step into it, we can just slide further and further into despair. It can seem like there is no escape and no rescue.
David reminds us of one simple but profound fact, “What can mere mortals do to me?” In the commissioning of the Twelve, Jesus told them, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28, ESV). We know that many have been martryred for the cause of Christ. Many have also since New Testament times been tortured, persecuted, had their belongings seized, lost employment and economic opportunities, and even lost families. But God is still in control. So let us not fear, but instead, praise God and trust Him.
Pray the Word:
Confess any fear in your life to God. Listen for Him to comfort you.
