Read the Word:
Luke 21:24-38
Meditate on the Word:
It seems that as a society, we are busier than ever before. We have a never-ending list of things that we need to do, items we need to buy, activities we must attend, etc. There is hardly time for it all. It can be overwhelming. Possibly even more so, during this season of celebration as we work to make everything just right. The cares of the world can really get to us.
When we get overwhelmed, it is also easy to look to dull the constant workings of our brain. Some use alcohol or drugs to do this. Many now use television or social media to fill their minds with entertainment and take their minds off everything else. We can use this as a way to avoid engaging with those around us. We can also use these things to distract us from paying attention to our Lord.
Jesus calls us to pay attention, and not be dulled by “carousing, drunkenness, and worries of life.” Oddly, when we pay attention to Him, He calls us to rest in Him, abide in Him, and to have peace which we cannot find in the things of this world we seek. Let us focus on Him today.
Pray the Word:
Spend some time in silence today listening to our Lord. Don’t use the things of this world to tune Him out.
