Read the Word:
John 15:18-25
Meditate on the Word:
Once again in America, we are facing the “most important election in our nation’s history.” To hear some tell it, this is the election that decides whether or not our country will survive. A media that monetizes fear and social media that dehumanizes and incites us have created a situation in which people in the body of Christ are demonstrating hatred toward each other instead of love, which Christ actually commanded. We cannot do anything about the world’s hatred of us; it is our God that they hate. We can and must, however, do something about our hatred of each other.
Take these words of our Lord to heart, “you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it.” Not only did our Lord choose you out of this world, but He also chose some of those whom you are calling names. This follows his pattern from selecting the Twelve. Jesus chose fisherman, a tax collector who likely would have been extorting them, and a Zealot who would have previously wanted the tax collector dead. He called them out of this world and into His Kingdom. Let us remember that America is not our ultimate home. We are citizens of a better Kingdom. Let us act like it to each other.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal any believer with whom you need to reconcile. Commit to doing so.
