Read the Word: Matthew 8:5-13
Meditate on the Word:
Perhaps the most compelling thing in this episode is that the centurion (who was someone important) admitted that he was unworthy of having Jesus come to his home. This was someone who commanded a great deal of respect. Someone who was to be feared. Someone the government placed in a position of importance. Someone who likely had earned his position. Yet, when face to face with the Lord, he recognized his own unworthiness.
He was not unworthy by virtue of being Roman, or even being human. He was unworthy because, like us, he was a sinner. We are all unworthy to approach Christ on our own. The good news is that He is willing to receive us anyway. Even those who we might think of as unworthy.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord today that even though we are unworthy, He came for us anyway.
