Read the Word:
John 6:35-40
Meditate on the Word:
I find great comfort in the thought that Jesus will never cast us out or lose us. He has called us to Himself permanently. This is truly good news, particularly for those of us who constantly feel like we are having to earn our acceptance in Christ. Jesus says that, “Everyone the Father gives to me will come to me.” We are in the loving care of the Good Shepherd. This should truly give us joy.
Something else really strikes me about this passage, however. Jesus says in v. 38, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” How often do we think about doing the will of Him who called us? If Jesus, who is God in the flesh, sets aside His own will for the glory of the Father, how much more should we do that? We live in a world that tells us to seek our own interests first, however, this is not how we are to live. We are to esteem others higher than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). We are to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves. (Mark 12:30-31). Doing this requires setting aside our own self-interest and looking out for the interest of our Lord.
Pray the Word:
Thank God for your salvation today.
