Read the Word:
Psalm 122:1
Meditate on the Word:
Church attendance in the United States continues to be in decline. This is a well-established fact from different surveys and polls. At the same time, depression and anxiety seem to be at an all-time high. For the scientists in the room, I know that correlation does not prove causation, but I wholeheartedly believe that these two facts are related. Even those who are considered “active” church members attend fewer times per month than before. Meanwhile, those who do not attend miss some great benefits such as learning, growth, community, and strengthening.
To be clear, I am not trying to talk you into attending church for the benefits you will receive. Worship attendance is an act of being obedient to God. Hebrews 10:24-25 informs us that we are to watch out for one another, we are to provoke one another to good works, and that we are not to neglect meeting together. We must take this command seriously. When we do, blessings will result. When we do not, we find ourselves isolated from the community of faith.
Many churches, Sappony included, have a midweek service, prayer meeting, or Bible study. If your church does, I would encourage you to attend. Certainly, it is hard to get into the habit and requires planning, but it is worth it.
Pray the Word:
Commit to “go to the house of the Lord” at the next available opportunity.
