Read the Word:
Mark 14:26-31
Meditate on the Word:
We often focus on the account of Peter’s denial of Christ during our Lord’s trial before the Sanhedrin. The gospels make clear that Jesus warned Peter that he would deny him, which offended Peter greatly. Knowing that he had been warned by the Lord, and knowing that he had denied Him anyway, how frightening must the Resurrection have been for Peter. What would Jesus say to Him? Would He accept him? It seems unlikely that Peter believed in the Resurrection until Jesus showed Himself to him.
Many people live their lives as though they don’t believe that Christ is returning. They deny Him, whether in word or in deed. They talk and live in a way that demonstrates that they believe the current life is all there is. They will be shocked and ashamed at his reappearing. Let us not be like Peter who did not believe the Lord’s words until He returned. Let us believe now and expect Him to come back in the same way the disciples saw Him ascend. If we live like Christ is returning, we will not need to be ashamed when He returns.
Pray the Word:
Repent for any ways in which you have denied the Lord.
