Read the Word:
Luke 24:1-12
Meditate on the Word:
It can be hard to share the good news when people do not believe you. This group of women, seemingly led by Mary Magdalene (she’s the only one mentioned in John’s account), told the disciples that Jesus had been resurrected from the dead. This was something that Jesus Himself had been telling them would happen. Still, it was apparently too incredible to believe. Only Peter (and John, we learn from his gospel) went to investigate. I always caution against being too hard on the disciples, because resurrection from the dead hadn’t really happened before. It is difficult to wrap one’s head around it.
These women discovered how frustrating it is when people don’t believe you. We can experience the same frustration when sharing the good news of Christ with people. The comforting thing is that Jesus did later reveal Himself to all of the disciples. It was not the job of these women to convince; it was their job to tell. It is the same with us. Not being believed does not relieve us from our responsibility to tell the news of Christ. Let us keep that in mind today.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord today for a gospel that “seems like nonsense” but is absolutely true.
