Read the Word:
Proverbs 9:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
There is a saying that “Wisdom has been chasing you, but you’ve always been faster.” The fact is that we all know people that we think of as wise and people that we think of as foolish. In this Proverb, wisdom is portrayed as inviting people to a banquet. The meat is prepared, the table is set, and the invitation is called out. The truth about wisdom is that it is open to all, but does not come chasing you down. She invites you to the table to learn. Wisdom is not denied to anyone who accepts the invitation.
In his epistle, our Lord’s brother James writes, “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5). Note the phrase “generously and without criticizing” in this verse. God does not hold it against us when we seek this virtue. In fact, he is generous to give it to us, such as He was to King Solomon. And all we have to do is to accept the invitation to the table.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to grant you wisdom. Then commit to doing what He commands in order to receive it.
