Read the Word:
Mark 12:18-27
Meditate on the Word:
I always find it amusing when the gospels tell about someone trying to trip Jesus up or prove him wrong. In this case, it was the Sadducees. They came up with the most ridiculous scenario in their argument against resurrection. Surely, they thought, this would make Jesus look stupid. Except they were unaware that “the word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The words and commands of scripture were His. So, in His usual fashion, He used the words of scripture to prove them wrong. I fear that there are a great many people today who spend their time arguing with Sovereign God over the meaning of His holy word.
In the end, we know resurrection to be true because Jesus Himself showed it to be true. This means that since He has gone to prepare a place, He is coming back to retreive us (John 14:3). I officiated a funeral yesterday for a lady who was well known for her faith. Beforehand, walking amongst the people there, I heard several people remark that she was “with Jesus,” “in heaven,” “in the presence of the Lord.” The point is that these people, in their conversations, demonstrated a belief in life after we have died. Let us take comfort in that fact today.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord to help you to to more fully understand “the Scriptures and the power of God.”
