Read the Word: Romans 13:1-7
Meditate on the Word:
During the last few years, there has been a noticeable trend of professing Christians who are willing to blatantly disrespect government officials. I have seen name-calling, thinly veiled obscenities, and defiance of regulations. Many of these even from those who stand in a pulpit and preach every week. I have seen flags with obscenities directed toward leaders. I have seen vehicles decorated with the same obscenities. Sometimes even next to the “Jesus Saves” sticker. Brothers and sisters, this ought not to be.
The words that Paul gives here, inspired by God, are not in contrast to his example. They support his example. The books of Acts gives multiple examples of when Paul was treated unfairly and brutally. His example was one of composure and respect. Paul knew that he was representing Christ. We must also keep that in mind in our actions and words.
Pray the Word:
If you have been guilty of disrespect of government officials, repent. Pray for those in authority that God would give them wisdom to act appropriately.
