Read the Word:
Acts 9:32-35
Meditate on the Word:
It is striking just how concisely Luke words his account of the healing of Aeneas. All facts, and no fluff. Sergeant Joe Friday would be proud. Due to the facts not being buried in a word salad, two things become abundantly clear. The first is that Peter is not given, nor does he accept, any credit for the healing. His words, “Jesus Christ heals you,” are also concise and to the point. The only thing needed after that was a follow-up instruction and Aeneas’ obedience. The follow-up instruction, or “do this as the result of your healing,” is simple. “Get up and make your bed.” Obedience should always follow an encounter with Christ, and it did.
The second thing that is abundantly clear is that others were saved as the result of seeing Aeneas’ healing. Those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. When a man who has been bedridden for eight years starts walking, people take notice! No one could claim that this healing was anything other than a miracle, and no one claimed that this miracle was the work of any other than Christ. Therefore, people turned to Him. Let us ensure that we give credit to Christ for the healing in our lives and let others take notice.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord for any healing that you have received.
