Read the Word:
Psalm 39:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
In this stanza of a psalm, we once again observe the connection between the tongue and sin. This is yet another instance where God has stated something throughout scripture multiple times. I have always been of the opinion that when our Lord repeats Himself, He really intends for us to listen and take what He says to heart. It seems that our psalmist may have been surrounded by people who were speaking evil of him. As someone who has been in that situation before, I fully understand when he writes, “I was speechless and quiet; I kept silent, even from speaking good, and my pain intensified.” (v. 2)
The feeling of wanting to blow up on someone takes over us. Yet, when we get into that mindset, it can be hard to bring ourselves out of it. We need to remove the fuse before we say something that causes damage to friends, family members, and even ourselves. On Sunday, we were reminded about the need to bring our thoughts to Christ before they become actions. Let us remember to do that today.
Pray the Word:
Confess your thoughts about something particular to the Lord, and see what He leads you to do.
