Read the Word:
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Meditate on the Word:
We noted Sunday that when Jesus was questioned about the most important command of all (Mark 12:28-34), he quoted from this passage. Two things immediately draw attention. First, Jesus loves the Holy Scriptures. He quotes often from what we now refer to as the Old Testament. God’s word to His people is always valuable for us to read.
Second, we note the reason for the command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. That is because the Lord is “One.” Unlike the nations who surrounded them who had myriad gods, Israel’s God (and ours) is ONE. He is complete in His holiness, His justice, His mercy, and His strength. For this reason, our God deserves our complete love. He deserves all of our effort. Take a few minutes to think of how He has shown mercy in your life.
Pray the Word:
Thank God for the many great things that He has done in your life. Confess your love for Him.
