Read the Word:
1 John 2:18-25
Meditate on the Word:
One leftover response from my past is that I perk up every time I see or hear the words antichrist or last days. These words always trigger a response in me because I was taught that I should be on the lookout for the Antichrist and that the rapture was imminent. Reading the words of Apostle John here saying, “Children, it is the last hour,” written in the last quarter of the first century is a stark reminder that Christians have always lived in the last days.
As Jews lived for thousands of years awaiting the Messiah, Christians continue to wait for His return. But the point of divinely inspiring Apostle John to pen these words (or the book of Revelation) is not to give us a roadmap or timeline to the end of the world. Antichrists will come and go in every age. John is simply identifying them in his time. His encouragement is consistently, in every age, for believers to remain in Christ and to be faithful. When we do this, Christ’s return will be a joyous surprise.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord today for His promise to return.
