Read the Word:
Mark 13:32-37
Meditate on the Word:
At church, we have spent the last two weeks studying Jesus’ speech to the disciples regarding His return. We should note a couple of things that Jesus does not say in this account. First, he never says to slice and dice the scriptures and world events to come up with a date for His return. By saying “no one knows,” what Jesus is saying is that “I will be back, but when is not your concern.” The knowledge would not benefit us.
The second thing that Jesus does not say is that we should dread His coming. Those who loved Him were heartbroken by His death. The resurrection was a glorious thing to them. They would not have wanted to see Him leave when He ascended to heaven. The promise that He would return for them would have brought them great joy. Do we think about the Lord’s return with joy? Or are we too busy dreading dreading the tribulation period, or hoping that we will get out of it? Jesus’ whole point was for us to wait, anxiously, expectantly, for Him to return for us. Many people have a reason to dread His coming. His followers are not among them.
Pray the Word:
Express your love for our Lord and your hope in His return to Him today.
