Read the Word:
1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Meditate on the Word:
“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”–Otto von Bismarck. In our passage today, Apostle Paul is reminding the church at Corinth to learn from the mistakes of those who have gone before. Israel had seen God’s miracles many times, and yet continued to defy and disobey Him at every turn. Their fundamental lack of faith in God, despite all the evidence, resulted in the loss of incredible blessing. People could have entered the promised land and begun to settle there instead of wandering and dying in the desert.
How many people do we know who refuse to follow our Lord, despite all that He has done in their lives? These people are throwing away blessings with both hands! They are missing the opportunity for closeness with our Lord, and instead committing themselves to rejection of Him. These things were written and preserved for us to learn to not do the same things. We also, in scripture, have many positive examples of faith in the Lord to follow. Let us not reject the Lord who gave His life for us, but instead, embrace Him fully today.
Pray the Word:
Is there some area of life where you are rebelling against the Lord? Confess and repent today.
