Read the Word:
Psalm 119:113-120
Meditate on the Word:
Verse 113 gives us some strong wording here. We most often try to avoid using the word “hate,” but here it is in scripture plain as day. Note, however, that the recipient of the psalmist’s hate is not “sinners” but the “double-minded.” These are those who appear religious, but are not committed to God’s laws. They know enough scripture and religious sayings to “talk the talk”, but their hearts are not with God. These are ones want to be religious, but still want to keep their sins. The problem is that the light of those who are truly committed to God bothers them because of the darkness they continue to hold onto. Those who are double-minded will often be the first to accuse believers.
Note also that the psalmist in the same sentence says, “but I love Your instruction.” He is opposed to those who reject God’s instruction and truly in love with God Himself. This is important because true love of God and His word leads to true love for those who also love Him. It also leads to emnity with those who despise God and His children. We do not seek to be enemies of anyone, but those who despise God will naturally despise us. It will be this way while we are still on this earth.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord if there is any double-mindedness in you. If there is, confess it and repent.
