Read the Word:
1 Samuel 15:10-23
Meditate on the Word:
One can find it easier to skip this passage than to look closely at it. After all, the command that was given to Saul is enough to make us very uncomfortable. After all, did God really want Saul and the Israelites to completely annhialate the Amalakites? Did God really say for him to destroy all the people and the animals? But, setting aside the uncomfortable command from God, the subject of focus here is Saul’s willful disobedience. Saul could not see God’s purpose in the destruction. He saw it as a waste and was convinced that he knew better. Saul’s lack of trust in God’s plan led him to disobey.
How often is it the same with us? God gives us a task that we do not understand, or do not think is important, so we fail to do it. He gives us something that we simply do not want to do, so we come up with justifications for not obeying. Maybe, like Saul, we try to justify it by saying, it’s for God. But disobedience to Him is not for Him, and it definitely does not please Him. Being outside of His will is a dangerous place to be.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord to point out any area where you might be disobedient. Repent.
