Read the Word:
James 5:7-12
Meditate on the Word:
I love to start home improvement projects. I start out motivated, have a plan, go to the Big Orange Store, get what I think I will need, then come home and get to work. I do great until something goes wrong. The old tile is harder to get up than I thought. Why can’t I get the power off to this socket? How do I cut off the water? Why don’t I have X tool. Back to Big Orange Store again! I get to where I either am too tired to continue or I run into something that I don’t know how to deal with. At that point, persevering with the project seems impossible. It’s usually at this point that I phone a friend! If not, months later, I’ll still be walking around the remains of what I have started.
The Christian life is a lot like that. We start out motivated. We think that we can handle it. We think that we know what we will encounter. For some reason, we like to think that it will be easy. But then, we encounter something we had not expected. Something we were not trained or equipped to handle. Something that there is no way we can deal with and we want to give up. What do we do then? We “phone a friend” if you will. We pray. We ask for help from a brother or sister. We continue to do what our Lord has instructed us, even if it seems impossible. This is how we persevere. If we give up, we will not have the reward of the completed job.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord for brothers and sisters who encourage your patience and persistence in your walk with Him.
