Read the Word:
Psalm 37:12-22
Meditate on the Word:
It can be difficult to see those who are against us seem to prosper and enjoy favor. It is hard to watch while those who hate us and the God we stand for experience popularity and affirmation. We can watch in absolute shock as people mock the Lord we love and wonder why they continue to get away with this. Our psalmist today reminds us, however, of God’s justice. God will punish His enemies. He will ensure that His people are vindicated. “He knows their day is coming.” (v. 13)
The enemy is enjoying a moment right now. But this moment will not last forever. And it is not up to us to avenge our Lord. We may wonder, “why does our Lord delay?” Why does He not go ahead and smite those who mock and deride Him? Why does He allow things to go on this way? Apostle Peter gives us that answer. “The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, CSB)
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to comfort our oppressed brothers and sisters today.
