Read the Word:
Mark 14:3-9
Meditate on the Word:
Although I don’t watch a lot of football, I know enough to know that there is no such thing as a fair-weather Buffalo Bills fan. Recently, the team put out a call for fans to come and clear snow at the stadium so that the game could go on. And fans came to shovel the snow. Lots of snow. According to one fan, if the Bills lost, it would be their fault. Many could see this as an embarrasing level of devotion to a football team. Maybe even too much.
This is how the disciples and others present felt at Mary of Bethany’s (John 12:1-7) act of devotion to Jesus. It was too much. Too expensive. Too wasteful. Too embarrasing. But her act of devotion was well-received by the One who mattered. She showed her great love for Him. Our Lord, in turn, promised that “wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.” And we are still talking about it today.
Pray the Word:
Express your love for our Lord today.
