Read the W0rd:
1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Meditate on the Word:
On Sunday, we examined this scripture during the sermon, but it absolutely bears further examination. Particularly of interest is the command in verse 18 to “Flee sexual immorality.” Why would the same author who wrote to “take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day” (Ephesians 6:13) ask us to flee? Why would the same God who inspired James to write, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7), inspire Paul to command people to flee? What makes sexual immorality different from any other sin?
Adam Clarke asserts that “Some sins, or solicitations to sin, may be reasoned with; in the above situations if you parley you are undone. Reason not, but FLY!.” Some sins and temptations we cannot reason with. Resistance to a temptation causes one to focus on the temptation that they are resisting. Therefore, Paul by divine inspiration commands us to flee from the situation. We must place distance between ourselves and this particular temptation.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to place distance between you and any temptation that you have a particularly tough time resisting.
