Read the Word:
Mark 14:12-26
Meditate on the Word:
Passover was a huge deal. It was a Festival that almost everyone traveled to Jerusalem for. It was the observance of the Israelites being freed from slavery in Egypt. At the original Passover (Exodus 12), every household was to sacrifice a lamb and put its blood on their doorpost. They were also instructed to eat the lamb in a specific manner. That night, when all the firstborn of all the land of Egypt were killed, the firstborn of all of Israel were spared. Immediately following the Passover is the Feast of Unleavened Bread, so these two feasts were really thought of as one. It was a reminder of their history and God’s goodness to them.
We cannot help but notice that when Jesus observed Passover with His disciples, which we call the Last Supper, He was taking His place as our Passover Lamb. His blood was spent to spare us from death that is a sure result of our sins. Everyone sins, and despite our best efforts, we cannot atone for our own sin. Only Christ could. Let us remember this today.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for His great sacrifice today.
