Read the Word:
Ephesians 2:1-10
Meditate on the Word:
On some level, I think that most of us get nostalgic. We remember the past with fondness, and tend to gloss over the less pleasant parts unless it was particularly traumatic. I think that nostalgia is a big part of the phenomenon the last few years of bringing back TV shows from the 80s and 90s. Nostalgia is a reason that music from the distant past is charting again with unprecedented frequency. Nostalgia can be good. However, it can also be dangerous.
We must remember the past, but we must not live there. Particularly for those of us who were “walking according to the ways of the world” back then, romanticizing the past is dangerous. It is akin to saying, “I had such a great time in prison!” Paul reminds us in this passage that previously, we were dead in our sins. It is good to remember this and appreciate that we are now alive. It is not good to want to go back there.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for the gift of life that He has given you. Ask for opportunity to display His love to others.
