Read the Word:
Psalm 120:1-7
Meditate on the Word:
We live in a time and place where there is an abundance of distress. Bad news bombards us from everywhere day and night without end. We live in a time when many claim truth, and few actually speak it. The bad news from all corners of the world, the addictive nature of social media, and the commodified lies that we either believe and share or feel the need to respond to are intended to cause us distress. These things are almost perfectly designed to attack our faith in God.
We cannot always escape bad news. We cannot always escape lies. But we always have help in our distress. The very next psalm reminds us that “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2). It doesn’t matter that we are under constant attack. It doesn’t matter that we are surrounded by those who preach peace while refusing to practice it. What matters is that “the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Let us remember that truth today.
Pray the Word:
Confess to the Lord anything that has you distressed today.
