Read the Word:
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
Meditate on the Word:
On Sunday, we discussed the importance of rejoicing, prayer, and thanksgiving. These practices are essential to the spiritual life. These help us to avoid stifling or quenching the Spirit in our lives. So does abstaining from all forms of evil. What these things do is to set the stage for the Holy Spirit to do His work in us. We are unable to sanctify ourselves. If we could, we would not need a Savior. We cannot keep ourselves blameless; only our Lord can. Fortunately, as Paul reminds us, “He who calls you is faithful; he will do it.”
Our practices of rejoicing, prayer, and gratitude demonstrate our willingness to receive His work in us. They demonstrate gratitude for what He has done and will continue to do. Let’s commit to rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks in all things. And while we are doing that, let us let the Holy Spirit do the work of sanctifying us.
Pray the Word:
Give thanks to our Lord today for what He has saved you from and what He has saved you for.
