Read the Word:
Psalm 95:1-11
Meditate on the Word:
It can be very difficult for us sometimes to “shout joyfully to the Lord.” Sometimes we do not “feel” very joyful. When life brings stress and turmoil, it can be hard to even want to speak to God at all. Let alone joyfully. When we are experiencing family problems, job difficulties, financial stress, or health challenges, we do not “feel” like shouting “triumphantly to the rock of our salvation.” This psalm contains a warning about hardening our hearts as the Israelites did at Massah and Meribah. In Exodus 17, we see the people complaining about a lack of water in these places and failing to trust God’s provision. They could not see how God would bring them through the situation, so they assumed He would not, despite the miracles he had already done.
Do we get so focused on the things of our daily lives that we forget that “the Lord is a great God”? When we lack, do we forget that the mountains and the seas are His? Do we forget that we are the people of His pasture and the sheep under His care? Remembering these facts alone should help us to start the climb out of a joyless rut. He is the Lord and He cares for us. Let us remember that!
Pray the Word:
Thank God for His loving care today.
