Read the Word:
Judges 4:17-23
Meditate on the Word:
Sometimes, what the world needs is a well-placed woman of God. In a lather-rinse-repeat episode from the book of Judges, the people have done evil in the sight of God and are being oppressed by an enemy. This time, Deborah is serving as their judge. Deborah sends for Barak, who is at the time, failing to obey the command of God to take 10,000 men to battle Sisera, the leader of the oppressing army. God had promised to deliver Sisera’s army into Barak’s hand. Barak would only go with Deborah, so she went, but informed him that he would get no glory because God would deliver Sisera into a woman’s hand. Deborah was a well-placed woman of God who got Barak to do what God had commanded.
Jael was also a well-placed woman. She was literally in her tent-home, doing whatever tasks she had going on. Jael did not go to the battle, the battle came to her. God had given Sisera’s army over to Barak, but Sisera had gotten away. So guess who got the credit for destroying the commander of the oppressing army? The wife with a hammer and tent-peg!
On Resurrection Sunday, we observed that a well-placed woman was the first to see the Resurrected Lord, and the first to go and tell the disciples about Him. Mary Magdalene was also a well-placed woman. She was simply trying to perform an act of kindness for Jesus, and was rewarded with a face-to-face encounter with the Lord.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for a well-placed woman that you know today.
