Read the Word:
Psalm 105:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
These first few verses of this psalm give us a lot to think about. Look at these verbs: Give thanks; proclaim His deeds; sing to Him; honor His holy name; rejoice; seek the Lord; remember the wondrous works. This is a lot, but they are all related. The psalm goes on to tell about God’s deliverance of Israel from captivity in Egypt. This is the history of “his chosen ones.” (v. 6) Because of the things that His people have already experienced, they have good reason to do all these things that are discussed at the beginning.
Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to “give thanks in everything.” This is the attitude from which everything else will flow. If we are truly thankful for what our Lord has done, we will happily “proclaim His name among the peoples.” If we are truly thankful, we will seek the Lord. If we are truly thankful, we will remember His works. If our attitude is one of true thankfulness, then we will happily sing praise to Him.
When we think about it, are we truly thankful? Do we take time to thank our Lord for all His provision in our lives? Do we stop and think about how grateful we should be for the gift of salvation through Christ? Or have our prayers become a laundry list of requests?
Pray the Word:
Today when you pray, think of as many things as you can to give thanks to God for. If you like, share some in the comments to encourage others to be thankful.
