Read the Word:
Psalm 19:12-14
Meditate on the Word:
Our psalmist here mentions both unintentional sins and willful sins. Of course we know that both have devastating consequences. If a person goes to his home, gets a gun, goes out and commits murder intentionally, someone is dead. If a person accidentally runs a stop sign in his car, killing another person, someone is dead. Yet we see these two crimes differently because one was intentional. Both were destructive and carried the same result, but one was planned and carried out while one was neglectful. The laws of our land see these as different crimes. The families affected experience the same results.
Both kinds of sins, unintentional and willful, come from the heart. Both are rooted in rebellion against our Creator. Both kinds of sin separate us from God. Both kinds of sin require the blood of Christ as atonement. But often, we are not aware of our unintentional sins. This does not make them less consequential, it just makes us less aware. This is where we need the conviction of the Holy Spirit to alert us to unseen danger. Let us pay attention to Him today.
Pray the Word:
Join with the psalmist in praying, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.”
