Read the Word:
Psalm 110:1-7
Meditate on the Word:
On Sunday, we saw that when Jesus was teaching in the Temple during the last week of His earthly ministry, he quoted this particular psalm. He asked the question that if the Messiah was a descendant of David, why did David call him “my Lord.” This psalm has long been understood as being about our Lord coming in judgment. This was not the purpose of His first coming; it is the purpose of His return.
Jesus Himself confirms some things for us about this psalm in Mark 12:35-37. First, He confirms for us that David was the earthly author of that particular psalm. Second, Jesus affirms that David authored this psalm by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We can (and must) accept scriptures as true because God Himself, through the Holy Spirit, gave the writers these words for His people then, and now. This means that when Jesus says He will return, we must expect His return. We must be ready.
Pray the Word:
Acknowledge that the return of our Lord will happen when God has ordained it to happen. Confess your reliance on Him to be prepared for that day.
