Read the Word:
Joshua 5:10-12
Meditate on the Word:
The philosopher Seneca is noted as saying, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” If you’re Gen-X, you may have just read that to the tune of Semisonic’s 1998 song “Closing Time.” But this is what the Israelites were experiencing. After a journey that had begun forty years prior, they were arrived at the Promised Land. There was a lot to do there, but the journey was at an end. And so was the provision of manna for them to eat.
Of course, God would still provide for them, but now it would be via the crops of the land. The manna was always meant to be temporary. God intended for His people to enjoy the good things of the land. But I wonder, how many people woke up that first morning disappointed to find no manna. How often are we disappointed when something that is meant to be temporary ends. But God was replacing a good thing with a better thing. We, also, should not be sad when God replaces something good in our lives with something better. We instead, should be grateful.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for His provision in your journey.
