Read the Word:
Psalm 127:1-2
Meditate on the Word:
We hear a lot of discussion about autonomy lately, or the freedom to make one’s own decisions. While this is generally accepted as a good thing, our freedom can lead many to think of themselves as their own god. Having the authority of self-determination can lead to us making plans that are not what God would have us to do. In Genesis 11, we see an example of what happens when people make their plans without consulting God. The wonderful tower that they started was abandoned because God was not in their plans.
How many people work daily, trying to build lives for themselves that are based on nothing more than personal desires? How many people do not ask their Lord where He wants them to live, what career He wants them to have, or even which person He wants them to marry? The problem is, as we are told in this passage, “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor over it in vain.” This is true of whatever work we as His followers undertake, whether building our own lives, our communities, or even our nation.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal any area of your life that you are trying to build without Him. Repent.
